FRI, MAY 15 2020-theG&BJournal-The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo Thursday described the establishment of the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund as creative, forward looking and thoughtful response to what is perhaps the most profound global and domestic challenge to health and the economy in history.
The Fund was set up to support the efforts of the Federal Government in the protection of the vulnerable and provide assistance to many in the informal sector. It is also to support physical infrastructure of healthcare centres across Local Government Areas in the country as well as the social investment efforts of the Federal Government.
‘’We owe a debt of gratitude to the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Global Citizens and the other partners responsible for the initiative,’’ Osinbajo said.
According to the Vice President, asides the precise purpose of providing safety nets for several of the vulnerable and poor in our midst, it also provides jobs, credit to several informal sector traders, small holder farmers, and several others in economic value chain ‘’who are usually ignored or untouched by many credit facilities and other economic initiative of government.’’
