MON, JULY 16 2018-theG&BJournal- There is a divide between those who think that Nigeria needs fresh new faces in the political arena and those who canvass for new ideas.  I strongly think that what is needed at this juncture are fresh ideas.

Practically, everybody running things in the states as well as 70 percent of them in the legislature are not as old as Buhari or Atiku , my preferred candidate, for president in 2019.The cry for new faces is illusion masquerading as practical solution to Nigeria’ s problem. How does a 30 – year old president by virtue of youthful vigour alone solve our problems? Sitting at the helm is not like participating in a marathon race.  On the other hand harbingers of new ideas irrespective of age will give new meaning to existence in Nigeria.

No self-respecting person will love the carnage going on here, there and everywhere. Dozens of Nigerians get killed for nothing. The police is helpless even though they spend a sizeable chunk of change annually.  Reforms by way of enabling legislation for States ( not insolvent ones)to have its own local police is a fresh new idea.

Restructuring and re-engineering the system to make for greater efficiency in service delivery, is the reason for restructuring. 180 million people cannot be effectively administered as a unit. When can the Water resources ministry in Abuja take the precious stuff to all the nooks and crannies of our 90000 square kilometres? Or of what use is a women’s affairs ministry in Abuja to the woman in Abua in Rivers State?

Federal government is expected to do five things not 500000! They are defence, diplomacy, fiscal- monetary policy, federal law enforcement- justice and build critical infrastructure. Ideas, ideas and “more better ideas” are needed to rescue Nigerian humanity.  Atiku remains the only serious contender talking about restructuring.
