SUN, JUNE 23 2019-theG&BJournal- Eight races gone, eight race victories for the 2018/19 constructors’ champions Mercedes FI team and for Lewis Hamilton, the reigning world champion, it is his sixth wins in the last seven races and he is looking unstoppable this season.

The drive of the day went to 19 year Lando Norris  who was over-powered in the last lap by Daniel Ricciardo who finished seventh in the Renault, Kimi Raikonanin in the Alfa Romeo Racing Ferrari and Nico Hulkenburg also in the Renault but managed to score a valuable point in 10th place for McLaren Renault F1.

It wasn’t particularly a spectacular race but it didn’t disappoint the hundreds of thousands of spectators who came to watch the fastest cars on earth break circuit records multiple times at Paul Ricard circuit in France.

’It was such a challenge out there..but with all these guys (his team mechanics and technicians) we are just creating history together,’’ Hamilton said after he led every lap and won the race from pole. ‘’This is the best start to the year and we are going to enjoy it.’’

Hamilton’s team mate Valtteri Bottas came in second place to seal a one-two for Mercedes ahead of Frenchman Charl Leclerc in the Ferrari.

Bottas couldn’t match Hamilton’s pace today and said it is something for him to look closer to before the next race in Austria at the end of the month.

‘’He is not unbeatable,’’ Bottas said of Hamilton. ‘’It is something I need to work on’’

Leclerc’s Ferrari team mate only managed a fifth place finish after a dismal qualifying weekend in which the stewards also dismissed the appeal on the 5 second penalty  clamped on him in the last race two weeks ago at the Pirelli Grand Prix Du Canada.

Dutchman Max Versteppen finished where he started in fourth behind Sabastian Vettel in the Ferrari. McLaren Renault had an impressive points haul finishing sixth with Carlos Sainz and Norris in tenth place, the last point scoring position.

Lewis Hamilton with 187 championship points now holds a 36 points advantage over team mate Bottas going into the Austrian Grand Prix in two weeks time and 76 points advantage over Sabastian Vettel who is trailing in third place. For the constructors championship Mercedes is miles ahead of Ferrari with 338 points vs 198 points. RedBull Racing Honda is further back down the order with 136 points.
