SUN, OCT 29 2023-theGBJournal|Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan arrived Nairobi, Kenya early this morning, to attend the African Conference on Agricultural Technologies (ACAT) organised by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF).

The conference will be held from 30th October to 3rd November 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya on the theme Agricultural Resilience through Innovation.

”I am looking forward to fruitful discussions on ways of improving agriculture and food systems in Africa and boosting investments in the sector, leveraging technology and innovative solutions,” the former President said.

The inaugural ACAT 2023 Conference, according to CS Linturi Mithika, Cabinet Secretary, Kenya Ministry of Agriculture. Livestock, Fisheries and Co-Operatives, ”aims to facilitate key dialogues that will contribute to the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and continental agendas, such as the African Union Agenda 2063 and in particular the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP).”

The Conference organisers, AATF, say it will highlight the centrality of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in fostering agricultural transformation.

It will be the principal forum for discussing agricultural technology transfer that catalyze more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable African agriculture.

”Innovation has been key in solving many of Africa’s challenges; from mobile money payments to drought-tolerant seed, our path towards agricultural resilience therefore depends on innovation,” AATF said.

AATF noted also that the Conference will be the first ACAT to highlight technological advances and successes in the development and deployment of innovative technologies to the continent’s smallholder farmers and celebrate 20 years of AATF’s innovation and impact in Africa’s agriculture since its founding in 2003.
