First batch of 450 Nigerians fleeing Russia Ukraine war arrive home at last

FRI 04 MARCH, 2022-theGBJournal- Max Air Limited carrying the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from Ukraine, mostly students,  arrived Abuja from Bucharest, Romania, Nigeria 7:10 am today, as the Federal Government continues frenetically to successfully evacuate the remaining stranded citizens.

Nigerian Ambassador Mrs Modupe Irele addressed the returnees before their departure aboard the Max Air flight VM 602 from Bucharest.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday approved the release of $8.5 million to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the evacuation exercise.

Air Peace aircraft had also departed Lagos to Warsaw, Poland to begin the evacuation of Nigerian refugees since the President’s approval. The Air Peace aircraft, the first of two designated, with 180 available seats arrived Warsaw 9 am Thursday.
