Botswana Gender Minister Event

THUR, 13 OCT, 2022-theGBJournal| On the first leg of her multi-country Southern and East Africa travels as part of the International Day of the Girl Child week and in pursuit of UN SDG Goal #5, education advocate, global envoy and film maker Zuriel Oduwole arrived in Gaborone – Botswana to commence her projects in the region.

Botswana Gender Minister Event

The Los Angeles native was formally welcomed to Botswana in a colorful event in Gaborone by the Minister of Gender Anna Marie Mokgethi and the Minister of Youth Development Tumiso Rakgare

Supported by several dozens of teenage girls and young women, the Ministers extoled the example and inspiration Zuriel has become to youths across the continent, having now spoken directly to more than 51,645 in 20 countries, and the honor it was to have Zuriel now in Botswana, her first time in the country.

While girl’s education is now beginning to receive the appropriate attention in the SADC region, including Botswana, it is gender-based violence that the ministers wanted Zuriel to also add her voice to curbing while visiting countries in the region.

In March 2018, Oduwole met with Mozambique’s President Felipe Nyusi in Maputo about the general practice of girl marriage in that SADC country. A year later, Mozambique passed a law against girl marriage.
