MON, JUNE 17 2019-theG&BJournal- The passion, the emotion was felt in both France and in Nigeria and it also reflected in the energy  and noise of the spectators at the Roazhon Park, Rennes France during the last group stage match at the on-going FIFA Women world cup final.

The vastly experienced French team that demolished Nigeria 8-0 last at Le Mans when they met came into today’s game with four changes and hoping to repeat their Le Mans exploits against the Super Falcons.

France pressed high early in the game, pinning Nigeria to their half but Nigeria’s first press earned them a corner kick and the needed confidence boost. France held off the corner kick and continued to build with good movement and passing until the end of the half. The First half ended goalless with France having 70% of the ball possession but no shots on target.

The match ended controversially, 1-0 in favour of France after France was given a second penalty chance in a space of 2 two minutes in the 85th minute of the tension soaked and highly technical game.

Nigeria will now sit and hope that that their performance will earn them a berth in the next round.
