JANUARY 16, 2018 – World football governing body, FIFA, on Monday banned Joseph Lamptey of Ghana for six years for match-fixing.

A FIFA investigation linked the referee accused of match-fixing a World Cup qualifier to “numerous publicly documented scandals” since 2010.

FIFA investigators said Lamptey had “a history of being suspended for poor performances,” and typically awarded more penalties than other African referees.

Portugal’s 2-2 draw in Gabon in a 2012 friendly, which included three penalties scored, was among six suspicious games Lamptey handled before he fixed a South Africa-Senegal qualifier in November 2016.
His decisions in South Africa’s 2-1 win led FIFA to ban him for life and order a replay.
