THUR, AUG 20 2020-theG&BJournal– The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 today confirmed the resumption of international flights for August 29, 2020 as earlier announced, but adds that the cumulative number of passengers to be allowed in initially will be limited to about 1, 280 per day-for both the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
‘’We are working on the logistics and the process and how to determine which flights will be allowed to come in. That should be done by tomorrow, and hopefully by Monday we will get everything in place,’’ says the representative of the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika during the Task Force briefing today in Abuja.
He noted that there are certain countries which have placed ban on Nigerians and residence of Nigeria going to their country. He said those to be allowed into the country will be determined by those who allow Nigerian into their country.
‘’The principle of reciprocity will be applied,’’ the aviation official said.
He disclosed that the aviation ministry had a zoom meeting already with foreign airlines and gave them the country’s requirements and noted that so far the response has been positive from a few of the international airlines on meeting the requirements.
A meeting was also held with Nigerian health authorities on the protocols for people coming in and going out of the country for COVID-19 checks. He said the information on the protocols will be disseminated officially to all the airlines and the aviation authorities around the world in due course.
