FG lauds EU N21 billion donation to Nigeria’s COVID-19 fight

TUE, APRIL 14 2020-theG&BJournal- President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday said that the European Union (EU) is mobilising other sources of funding to support Nigeria’s effort at controlling the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic after he commended the body for donating N21 billion (50 million Euros) to the COVID-19 fight.
EU Head of Delegation Ambassador Ketil Karlson announced the donation to the Federal Government during a meeting with The President and senior government officials at the State House Abuja, today.
Member EU delegation Paulo Barroso Simoes, Minister Counsellor and Head of Cooperation Kurt Cornelis were also in the meeting at the State House.
The President noted also that the EU has already paid 1.2 million Euros to UNICEF, and goods purchased through the funding are expected in the country soon.
The EU is channeling the donation through the United Nations (UN) COVID-19 Basket Fund for Nigeria.
