THUR AUG 22 2024-theGBJournal|The Federal Government Wednesday approved an upward review of the fees for the Nigerian passport effective from 1st September, 2024, a 10-day notice which has drawn criticisms from a cross section of Nigerians.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in statement issued to the effect, said the hike in fees is part of efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
Consequently, a 32-page passport booklet with 5 year validity, previously charged at N35,000 will now cost N50,000, while the 64-page passport booklet with 10 year validity, previously N70,000 will be charged at N100,000.
”The fees remain unchanged in Diaspora,” NIS said.
The passport fees has within one year gone up by 50 percent, from N25,000 to N50,000 for the 32-page booklet.
Nigerians reacting to the 10-day notice say, the increase is another example of the government’s lack of empathy and consideration for the citizens.
