…Nigeria’s war on corruption non-discriminatory- Attorney-General
THUR, APRIL 09 2020-theG&BJournal- The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) said Thursday that the Federal Government has not entered into any agreement to concede any amount of money to any individual in relation to the over $300 million to be repatriated back to Nigeria from Island of New Jersey.
He described the insinuation of third-party beneficiary outside the scope of the agreement as baseless and unfounded.
‘’The Federal Government is exclusively bound by the tripartite agreement entered into and signed by Nigeria, United State of America and Island of Jersey for the repatriation of over $300 million funds referred to as Abacha III,’’  Malami said during his conversation with the Voice of Nigeria and Deutsche Welle, the German International Public Broadcaster.
According to him, no individual was named to be a beneficiary of any amount in the tripartite agreement. He said, in the document of the agreement, it was clearly spelt out that the monies will be utilized in the Abuja-Kano and Lagos – Ibadan Expressway as well as the 2nd Niger Bridge only.
In another development, the Justice Minister described the Federal Government’s fight against corruption in the country is impartial, objective and non-discriminatory, while responding to claims contained in a letter allegedly written by a US senator commenting on the issue.
Malami, while addressing Nigeria’s war on corruption Thursday, noted that the evidence on the ground establishes that the Federal Government’s operations in the fight against corruption are carried out without fear or favour, and described allegations that the fight is aimed at political witch-hunting as unfounded, baseless and devoid of factual proof.
‘’The efforts to have a corrupt-free Nigeria are devoid of any political inclination.’’
