KEBBI, AUGUST 16, 2016 – Reconstruction work has commenced on the 186-kilometre Jega-Birnin- Yauri federal road in Kebbi.Mr Muhammed Goni, the Federal Controller of Works in Kebbi, told newsmen on Tuesday in Jega, that construction ought to commence on Feb 17, 2015, but delayed due to financial constraints.
“The job is expected to be completed by Feb.17, 2018, that is 36 months,’’ he said.
Goni said that M/S Triacta Nigeria Limited was the contracting firm, adding that the company was expected to deliver the project on agreed date.
He urged road users to be patient with the contractors, adding that the company should be given the necessary support throughout the project duration.
Mr Walid AbouJaoude, senior official of the company, said phase 1 of the project was started by the company from Sokoto airport roundabout.
“This is the phase2 of the road project, it stretches from Jega roundabout and to end at Birnin-Yauri. It is a 186-kilometre road project,’’ he said.
On his part, the State Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Malam Usman Abubakar, said the union members were happy that construction had started.
He expressed delight on the award of contract for the rehabilitation of the road, as it would reduce accidents and robbery on that highway.
Abubakar assured that commercial drivers would observe traffic rules on the road.
