SUN DEC 21 2025-theGBJournal|The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting Nigeria’s blue economy and trade infrastructure by revalidating the licence for the Ondo Deep Sea Port.
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, describes the FG-backed project, approved in 2023 and fast-tracked for revalidation by the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, as a strategic national asset.
He said the Deep Sea Port will help drive international trade, attract investment, accommodate large vessels with its 18-metre natural draught, eliminate trans-shipment, and stimulate economic activities across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
The Deep Sea Port with cutting-edge resources and infrastructure is set to cost more than US$ 1 billion.
It will house Cargo terminals (container, dry bulk, and liquid bulk) in the port, along with warehouses, access roads to the port, and rail passenger and freight.
Terminals for LNG and oil with specific piers, and Intermodal transportation involving rail and roadways interacts with utilities, deep seaports, scanners, ships and barges, and information and communication technology (ICT).
Electricity provided by dedicated gas-fired-plants and renewable energy sources, as well as storm water drainage, sanitary wastewater drainage and treatment, and firefighting systems. Potable water is also produced by captive water treatment facilities.
