MON. 16 JANUARY, 2023-theGBJournal| ‘The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar pitched his agenda, ahead of the 2023 general elections, to key private sector stokeholders today at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group House, in Lagos.
The Presidential candidate also took a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that the failure of their governance is staring every Nigerian in the face.
”Capital has taken flight alongside policy incoherence which continues to cause an impediment to economic growth,” he said.
During the engagement he laid out his economic agenda and spoke to why ”it will be dangerous for Nigeria to relinquish their future to a greenhorn or the national leader of same party that brought us to this very situation,” in an apparent dig at the APC Presidential candidate.
”No one should downplay the enormity of the task ahead. I have a good knowledge of challenges facing Nigeria, I will come prepared and experienced,” he said.
The Former Vice President reminded the private sector CEOs and business leaders that, as head of the economic management team while the Vice President, he was instrumental in designing a private sector revival strategy and advocated for the opening of the economy for private sector investments in several sectors.
”And we made tremendous progress,” he said. ”I’m sure you still remember the good old days of rapid economic growth with stable interest and exchange rates, low inflation, low unemployment rates and low poverty headcount. we paid off nearly all of our foreign debt which was crippling the country.”
Among many of the items in his to-do-list when elected, is the review of government procurement process ”to ensure value for money.”
According to Atiku, ”our government will tackle the deficit infrastructure financing and fast-track infrastructure development in the country, create a strong partnership with the private sector to create jobs, grow infrastructure and fight poverty.
He promised that his administration will support the private sector to drive growth, saying ”we have done it before, and you know we can do it again.”
”If we make appropriate economic opportunity for our people, it will have a significant impact on the socioeconomic lives of our people,” Atiku said.
