FRI 04 JUNE, 2021-theGBJournal- Facebook Friday announced a 2-year ban of former US President Donald Trump from its platforms, including Instagram, until at least January 2023. The ban will be effective from January 7, 2021 when Trump was first banned indefinitely from the platform following the Capitol Hill invasion on January 6, 2021.

The ban is coming after Facebook’s independent oversight board called for a review of the indefinite ban.

Nick Clegg, Vice President Global Affairs at FaceBook said in a note that Facebook will assess the public safety risk and extend the restrictions if conditions require.

‘’When the suspension is lifted, Mr Trump’s account will be subject to new enhanced penalties if he violates our policies, up to and including permanent removal of his accounts.’’

Clegg cited the gravity of the circumstances that led to Trump’s suspension, and said they believe his actions constituted a severe violation of their rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols they are announcing today.
