SAT 26 JUNE, 2021-theGBJournal- For Denmark’s travelling fans, the party continues, savouring every moment of the EURO 2020 and looking forward to Baku where their beloved team will face either the Netherlands or Czech Republic in the quarter finals.
Wales gave it everything. Played well but it was not quite enough to see them out play the smarter, smoother playing Danish team that is spiced with both experience and skilful ball players.
Denmark played with genuine composure once they started to find their rhythm and after some early flurry of attacks by the Welsh team led by Gareth Bales. Hard working and an effective team, they were simply too good for Wales.
Wales capped their horror day at the Johan Cruijff Arena-Amsterdam, Netherlands when substitute Harry Wilson was sent off for a clumsy challenge in the 90th minute.
It was a huge achievement for Wales to get to the tournament in anycase, and even bigger achievement to get to the knock-out stage. So their exit from the EURO 2020 after the 4-0 thrashing will be taken on the chin and not as a disgrace.
Goal Scorers
Kasper Dolberg scored twice to set up the Welsh mauling. Two late goals by Maehle and Martin Braithwaite sealed the trip to Baku for Denmark for the next stage.
