WED 27 APRIL, 2022-theGBJournal | For the sixth consecutive session, the domestic bourse edged higher, though slightly as in the previous session, as the benchmark index managed to eke out another meager 1bp gain to close at 48,571.75 points, the highest point since 15 September 2008.
Gains in BUACEMENT (+0.96%), UBA (+1.23%), STANBIC (+0.71%) and DANGSUGAR (+3.13%) helped offset losses in most Tier-1 banks, ZENITHBANK (-2.62%), FBNH (-2.07%), GTCO (-1.24%) and ACCESSCORP (-0.51%) to keep the market afloat. Consequently, the year-to-date (YTD) return rose slightly to 13.71%, while market capitalization gained N1.71bn to close at N26.19trn.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled lower relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions declining by 66.89%. A total of 246.70m shares valued at N2.32bn were exchanged in 5,033 deals. MULTIVERSE (-4.67%) led the volume chart with 36.24m units traded, while WAPCO (+0.00%) led the value chart in deals worth N392.65m.
Market breadth closed negative at a 1.28-to-1 ratio with declining issues outnumbering advancing ones. IKEJAHOTEL (-9.68%) led twenty-two (22) others on the laggard’s table, while ACADEMY (+9.92%) topped seventeen (17) others on the gainer’s log.
