English Premier League Clubs vote to resume contact training, sign of possible restart of the season

WED, MAY 27 2020-theG&BJournal-The Premier League shareholders voted unanimously Wednesday to resume contact training, stage two of the Return to Training protocol that has been agreed following consultations with Clubs, players, managers, PFA, LMA and the UK government.
According to a Premier League statement, ‘’discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow.’’
The new directive gives the teams permission ‘’to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimizing any unnecessary close contact.’’
The Premier League urged the squads to ensue strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible, and said players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.
‘’The Premier League’s priority is the health and wellbeing of all the participants.’’
The Premier League clubs will meet again on Thursday to discuss contingency plans on relegation and the awarding of the title, if the season has to be curtailed.
The second stage guidance for sportsmen and women to resume contact training was issued earlier this week by the UK government. The guidance requires close-contact training which will include coaching and and tackling in team sports within two-metre distance, in groups of up to 12 players.
