Elections: IG holds marathon meeting with mobile squadrons commanders, warns against violence

Abuja – WED, JANUARY 30 2019-theG&BJournal-Acting IGP Mohammed Adamu had a marathon meeting with 68 Mobile Squadron Commanders across the country in Force Headquarters Abuja on Wednesday.

INDEPENDENT reliably learnt that the meeting started at about 11.45am and ended at about 2.15pm

The IG was said to have warned them to be upright and stern during the coming elections. And to be sure the elections is crisis free.

Adamu recalled that “the mandate of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) as prescribed in Section 25 of the Police Act Cap 359 is  to act as strike Force that can rapidly be deployed as a cohesive specialized component to complement the conventional police in performing critical assignments.”

He said it is within the context and ” in relation to the election security plans that the PMF will be deployed to provide robust protection for local and international observers.”

The IG disclosed that the Mobile policemen would be deployed to provide security to INEC officials and electoral materials.

He added that they will also support other security agencies, and ” be deployed to strategic places across the country to respond swiftly to security threats.

Adamu used the meeting to assure Nigerians and international community that, “the Police Mobile Force personnel are adequately trained. ”

He called on politicians and the electorate “to place national security interest above their personal interest. The police under my watch are firmly committed to ensuring a robust election security management that will guarantee a conducive environment for citizens to freely exercise their franchise.”

Force spokesman ACP Frank Mbà confirmed it.
