FRI, JULY 14 2023-theGBJournal |Justice Haruna Tsammni, the presiding justice of the Election Petition Tribunal, today set an indefinite date to give ruling on the Petition brought by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging the conduct of the February 25 elections and the emergance of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President of Nigeria.

The APM is challenging the election on the basis that the nomination of Kassim Shetima as Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is unlawful.

At the Tribunal, the lead counsel for the APM asked the Tribunal to invoke relevant law to invalidate the nomination of both Tinubu and Shettima.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the first respondent in the suit through its counsel, prayed the Tribunal to dismiss the petition for lacking merit.

Similarly, the APC Counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) asked the Tribunal to dismiss the petition on all grounds for being frivolous, citing the Supreme Court judgement which had affirmed that other political parties lack the right to meddle in the internal affairs of another party on how to nominate its candidates for elective offices.

Justice Tsammani adjourned the delivery of judgement subsequently, saying the date for judgement will be communicated once judgement is ready.
