LAGOS, SEPTEMBER 1, 2016 – Mr Godwin Idemudia, General Manager, Communications, Eko Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EKEDC), has condemned incessant attacks on electricity workers by some residents while performing their official assignment.Idemudia, who made the statement on Thursday in Laogs in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, appealed to the police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of the company’s staff.
He said that some staffs of the company were recently attacked in Badagry and Amisu Igboro Street Ijanikin.
“In the course of the mayhem, a distress call was put across to the police in Ijanikin Police Station, who responded promptly,’’ he said.
The EKEDC spokesman said that the company had been receiving the support of law enforcement agencies within its network to protect its workers against assault.
He advised the company’s customers in the area of its operation to beware of touts parading themselves as workers of the company.
Idemudia said the company had received complaints that some people were carrying out illegal disconnection and re-connection of electricity in the premises of customers and extorting money from them.
He added that the company had arrested some suspects and they had been handed over to the police for prosecution.
