FRIDAY, JUNE 15 2018-theG&BJournal-The Uruguayan centre-back  Jose Gimenez rose high deep in the stoppage time to head home a heart breaking goal against Egypt at Yekaterinburg Arena, 1,800 from Moscow.

The Egyptian side held out trusting on counter attacking play to unsettle the much experienced Uruguayan side that boosts some of the fiercest names in world football. Uruguay had much of the chances.

The 1-0 win puts Uruguay on three points alongside the host nation Russia who comprehensively beat Saudi Arabia yesterday on the opening day of the 2018 World Cup. Egypt was excellent man-for-man to show that they belong on the stage.

Egypt’s star player Mo Sallah sat out the game still recovering from injury suffered during the European cup finals last month.
