TUE, JUN 16 2020-theG&BJournal- EDO State Governor Godwin Obaseki has finally resigned his membership of the All Progressive Party (APC) after days of speculation on his next move following his disqualification from contesting the State’s gubernatorial primaries last week.
Channels Tv reports that Obaseki announced his resignation from the party after his scheduled meeting today with President Muhammadu Buhari, in Abuja.
Obaseki said on Sunday ‘’I will be making my next move known after I complete consultations with my supporters and meet with President Muhammadu Buhari,’’ after sharing on twitter his appreciation for ‘’the sustained show of solidarity, support and goodwill from Edo people and Nigerians in the face of injustice by the APC,’’ following his disqualification.
His decision to quit the party is linked to the bitter rivalry that developed in the past couple of months between him and the APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, a rivalry that culminated in his dramatic disqualification from contesting the State’s gubernatorial primaries by the State’s election screening Committee. He refused to contest the decision of the Committee and began consultation with his associates.
There are speculations he will end up in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but it is still unclear if he will be contesting the September Governorship election on the PDP’s platform.
