MON, AUGUST 20 2018-theG&BJournal-There is an urgent need to develop the next generation leaders for all areas of life. One of such aspiring leaders is Justine Chinoperekweyi. Justine is a 35 year old Zimbabwean living in the United Arab Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
He is actively involved in higher education and spends most of his time researching on corporate governance, organization development, leadership development and personal leadership. Justine Chinoperekweyi, Ph.D, recently successfully defended his doctoral studies in Organization Leadership & Development with University of Lusaka and is awaiting graduation in summer of 2018. He holds an MA in Leadership and Management (Africa Leadership & Management Academy in association with University of Zimbabwe) and B.Com in Banking and Finance (Midlands State University).
With 10 years of banking experience, he currently works as Academic Director in Abu Dhabi and he is Founding Director of Academics & Programs at the Centre for Organization Leadership & Development (COLD), a Zimbabwean competency-based online education and training institution established early this year. He is also a Visiting Faculty of Leadership and Finance at Synergy University Dubai Campus and a professional member of the Global Institute of Organization Development Network (GIODN).
Justine has published three books with Notion Press in India. His writing focus on developing the next generation leaders, encouraging integrated living, sound corporate governance and advancing the field of organization development. The following are his book titles:
- Exceptionality Without Relapse: pathways and principles to creating an exceptional life
- Decision Making for Transformational Presence: Guide to making decisions that work
- Corporate Governance in Banking: Nuggets from Canada, Georgia, Germany, U.K., and Zimbabwe.
Exceptionality Without Relapse is Justine’s first book and focuses on personal development. This book covers the seven pathways and seven principles to creating an exceptional life. The book is centered around three kinds of people: those in Existence Modality, those in Emergence Modality, and those that become Exceptional. What does it take to transition from problem-orientation to possibility-seeking?
The seven pathways to creating an exceptional life are:
- Discover and Understand your Creative Ability
- Create personal clarity
- Embrace learning
- Reflect on your life through personal life audit
- Exceptionality planning
- Seek inspiration and start doing
- Enhance your perception and intelligence
The notion of creating an exceptional life, is guided by the following 7E’s to Exceptionality: Ethics, Enthusiasm, Empathy, Eloquence & Etiquette, Enterprising, Endurance, and Exercise.
The book is for those who have a strong desire to transform their life through enhancing perception and awakening of intelligence in view of an integrated way of living. The modern society has reduced the notion of exceptionality to money, power, fame, and other superficial or impermanent pursuits. But are these the true measures of exceptional living? Do any of these superficialities not soon fade away, like the flower that blossom in the morning and withers in the evening? Exceptionality is not exclusively about possessions, power, and privileges, but essentially living a healthy, balanced, and meaningful life. It is that state of being at ease with life or being in a state of absolute happiness and joy. In summarizing this book, Justine beautifully said “Most of us have our mind shaped, conditioned, and held within certain boundaries. We should experience some form of a revolution, a revolution that starts with the mind, a revolution that starts from within.”
The book Decision Making for Transformational Presence: Guide to making decisions that work, is an essential guide for individuals and organizations committed to live their greatest potential, to deeply transform and affect others by making effective decisions and being genuinely and passionately present, to move beyond the peripheral vision, and those who want to pioneer the unchartered terrain in the different areas of life. Through this book, Justine Chinoperekweyi encourages readers to always look inside when making decisions. This book includes decision-making process viewpoints of various transformation-focused millennials. The book is a worthy investment as it incorporates numerous models and quotations in order to reinforce essential decision making elements and reduce the complexity of decision making. In discussing this book, Justine was quoted saying: “The world is becoming extremely complex and so is the decision making process. There is an urgent need for all of us at various levels of decision making, to shun problem-orientation and walk the path of possibility-seeking with tremendous courage, compassion and curiosity”. The book Decision Making for Transformational Presence adopts the normative and descriptive views to decision making. Justine further said, effective decision making demands clarity, freedom, intelligence, awareness, discipline, and comprehensively understanding the process of thought and the ways of self.
Justine’s third book is titled Corporate Governance in Banking: Nuggets from Canada, Georgia, Germany, U.K., and Zimbabwe. The book makes use of complexity concepts to crystallize corporate governance theories and determine essential methods of optimal solutions in the governance of banks. The book is well-exemplified with case studies and guide readers prudently through the different aspects of corporate governance debates. In endorsing this book, Leadership Alliance Coach Nicole Heimann wrote that “Justine addresses one of the most important issues of our times, the need for transformation of corporate governance in the financial industry worldwide. Justine masterfully connects the dots between a variety of theories, well-known real-case examples, the unpredictable factor of human nature, the importance of leadership, and how organization development can strengthen the whole organization. The many dimensions and the complexity of the whole subject are presented in a clear, structured and easy to follow style.” Mrs. Avilla Dororosa Goba, DBA Scholar and Director Corporate Services in Zimbabwe wrote that “Justine has unpacked important information for those of us who are passionate about Corporate Governance not only in banking industry but in all business institutions. Not only does the tone of this book cover banking in the countries that Justine writes about, but is relevant in the world over. Read this book – and learn from one of the best, if you still have conscience and believe in ethical leadership where you focus on “moral excellence, goodness, chastity and good character”.
In summarizing this book, Justine indicated that the role of banks in the modern economy cannot be overemphasized. However, most banks in different jurisdictions exhibit poor corporate governance credentials as shown by the increasing number of bank failures in these countries. In view of the multi-dimensional effect of bank failures, specifically on the various sectors of the economy; the ramifications of failure are unacceptably costly to any economy. It is against this background that this book tackles banking sector corporate governance issues from a complexity science perspective and using case study approach of different countries. The banking sector is highly susceptible to the epidemic of inadequate corporate governance and this negatively affects organizational effectiveness across sectors. The negative effects of one institution affect system stability and solvency and eventually the whole economy. The quality of corporate governance expected of banking institutions in the current business environment is high. The gist of this book is to help readers enhance their understanding of corporate governance in banking institutions; in view of the complex, disruptive and wrenching macro and micro environmental changes. This book reviews certain corporate governance nuggets from different countries in order to devise corporate governance informed methods of optimal solutions for banks and the corporate sector at large. Based on the view of banks as complex adaptive systems, the review therefore helps to crystallize the essential methods of optimal solutions in the governance of banks going into the future.
