The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says it has sealed no fewer than 16 petrol filling stations in Sokoto and Kebbi states in the last seven days for allegedly selling above the official pump price.
Mr Mohammed Makera, the Operations Controller of the DPR in Sokoto State Field Office, announced this in Sokoto on Tuesday.
Makera said that 10 of the affected filling stations were in Sokoto metropolis while six were located in Argungu, Zuru and Kangiwa local governments in Kebbi State.
He explained that the affected filling stations were selling the product between N150 and N170 per litre against the N145 government approved price.
”All the sealed filling stations were fined N100,000 per pump and were forced to revert to the official pump price.
”The exercise would be sustained until the department ensures 100 per cent compliance level by all the filling stations in the two states.
”We will not rest on our oars until motorists get value for their money and ensure that none of them is cheated by the marketers,” Makera, said.
