THUR, AUG 27 2020-theG&BJournal– Ousted Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, has been freed by the new military leaders.
Keita was sacked from office over a week ago and detained with some members of his cabinet after months of protests in the country.
Report from Bamako said his release was secured following talks between the military rulers and the ECOWAS mediation team led by Nigeria’s former President Goodluck E. Jonathan.
The international community has been piling pressure on the military leadership that saw out Keita with ECOWAS Heads of State collectively condemning the coup as unconstitutional.
The European Union today announced it has frozen the work of its military and police training missions in the country, after earlier  admitting that some of the leaders of the coup had received training in France and Germany. The EU leaders discussed the developments in Mali last week and agreed to impose sanctions.
