WED APRIL 23 2025-theGBJournal| In a dramatic turn of event, the Delta State Governor, Sherrif Oborevwori Wednesday officially decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
Senator James Manager announced the Governor’s defection at a press briefing attended by Ifeanyi Okowa who running mate to Abubakar Atiku’s, the PDP Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Presidential election.
His announcement comes after a high-level closed-door meeting with his kitchen cabinet and staunch members of the APC, held at Government House, Asaba, the State Capital.
James Manager, at the press conference, said the Governor’s defection to the ruling APC was in the interest of the overall development of Delta State.
”The entire PDP structure in the State has been fused into the APC,” James Manager said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor joins the growing list of personalities formerly in PDP in Delta State and elsewhere, including Senator Ned Nwoko, who left the PDP amidst its protracted rancor and seeming implosion.
Recall that Oborevwori won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the platform of the PDP and has, until recently been very active in the party’s numerous reconciliation moves.
His exit from the PDP did not come as a surprise to many in the state as he has been seen openly supporting and campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s agenda.
But it deals a hard blow to the PDP who are now gradually losing their grip as the biggest opposition party in the country.
