Delta State governor Okowa wins key endorsements for second term bid

MON, MARCH 04 2019-theG&BJournal- Organized labour in Delta State and the Isoko Development Union (IDU) have endorsed the second term bid of Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, with the governor attributing the success of his administration to the cooperation and support of the labour unions in the state.

Speaking at a meeting between the Governor and leaders and members of organized labour in the state, the state Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC]  Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe  said that “Governor Okowa has been on the vanguard of everything that promotes the welfare of workers from the payment of salary arrears to the implementation of the new minimum wages which is why Delta State National Labour Congress has openly come out to endorse him for a second term”

He commended Governor Okowa for putting the needs of workers on the front burner describing the relationship between state government and labour as “a success story”.

Governor Okowa who thanked organized labour for their support and cooperation for the success of his administration described the partnership with organized labour as cordial, respectful and beneficial to Deltans and the state.

“I must thank the unions, all our workers for the support and understanding we received ;with the prayers and the support of the workforce, Deltans and leaders across the state we were able to consolidate on the promises that we made as a government” he said.

Senator Okowa while appreciating Deltans for the support his administration received during his tenure, called for a peaceful gubernatorial election saying “the support i have been receiving means a lot to me; it makes me believe that we are on the right path it makes me believe that in coming back for second tenure that I have the backing of the people and that it is very encouraging. For our state to be taken to greater heights every hand must be on deck because i cannot do it alone; our governance is not all about elections, it is about working with all Deltans directly or indirectly so we need to look beyond the elections and do not approach it as a do or die affair rather let us vote peacefully for no election is worth the loss of lives”.

He urged Deltans and organized labour to continue to support government, create peaceful environment for development to thrive in the state.

Meanwhile, the Isoko Development Union (IDU) and the entire people of Isoko nation worldwide have reiterated their support for the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Speaking at the meeting held at the IDU Secretariat on Sunday in Oleh, President General of the Isoko Development Union, (IDU) Chief Iduh Amadhe, said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done well for the Isoko people and as such deserves to be re-elected for a second term.

According to Chief Amadhe, “We have put all previous governors on a scale and it is important to state that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has performed very well in developing the Isoko nation. We cannot forget in a hurry how he assisted us in resolving the Ibrede crisis and his commitments to the development of the Isoko communities in Ndokwa East LGA.

“Under the Okowa led administration, we got full accreditation for the engineering and law faculties, accreditation of courses at Ozoro Polytechnic as well as construction of several roads in Isoko nation. If you go to Ofagbe Technical College you will see the huge investments the Governor has put in there, he said, adding “Beyond his performance, the Isoko nation is in support of the rotational arrangement of the governorship position and going by that arrangement, Governor Okowa again fits in properly as regards the zoning arrangement,”

Also speaking Isoko North Council Chairman Hon Emmanuel Egbabor warned against the use of security agencies to initimidate and harass the Isoko people, stressing that the government will not take it kindly with anyone found using security agencies to witch hunt anyone before, during and after the election.

At the end of the meeting, the Isoko nation resolved to vote massively for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to enable him complete some of the ongoing projects he is carrying out for the Isoko people in particular and Deltans in general.

The meeting which had in attendance, Majority Leader Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Tim Owhefere, Chairman of Isoko South Local government Council Hon. Itiako Ikpokpo and his Isoko North counterpart Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor, Arch. Joseph Ogeh, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, Engr. Daniel Omoyibo, Prof. Saliba Mukoro, Dr Nelson Ejakpovi, notable APC leaders, former NDDC Commissioner Dr Ogaga Ifowodo, Chief John Araka, Prince Okareme Maikpobi, Isoko North and South APC Chairmen, traditional rulers, President-Generals of communities, political party leaders, youths, women among others.
