DELTA, FEBRUARY 21, 2017 – The Office of the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, has issued a 24 -hour ultimatum to the daily editor of Vanguard to retract a publication claiming that an aide to the wife of the speaker was abducted in the early hours of this morning.

The office is also asking the editor to tender unreserved apology for the misguided and misleading information.

A news story published in the newspaper (Page 6) on Monday, February 20, 2017 says an aide to the wife of the speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, was reportedly abducted.

A statement signed by the chief press secretary to the speaker, Mr. Henry Ebireri described the use of the speaker’s wife name as a criminally motivated effort to increase the ransom.

“We are wondering where the reporter got that information from. We frown at such journalistic charade for a reporter to create such a huge fabrication”

The office threatened to pursue all available actions and remedies if Vanguard failed to comply with its demand for a retraction and tendering apology for the lie.

“The wife of the speaker is not a political office holder. She has no political aide attached to her. Mrs. Ese Ogi is a teacher at the Institute of Continuing Education, Sapele” the statement added.
