FRI, 21 OCT, 2022-theGBJournal| The Nigeria Supreme Court, today delivered a landmark judgement on Delta State Gubernatorial candidacy tussle, ruling that the incumbent House Speaker, Sherrif Oborevwori is duly elected to stand as state’s gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the next election.
The case brings to a close the challenge of David Edevbie, former commissioner of Finance in the state who also ran for the chance to govern the state but lost to Oborevwori in the May PDP primary election.
Delivering judgement, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Amina Augie, upheld the decision of the Appeal Court of Monday, August 29, 2022 which dismissed Edevbie’s challenge on the ground that the High Court erred in law in reaching the conclusion that Oborevwori was not qualified to participate in the governorship primary election of the PDP on account of forgery and perjury.
