THUR, FEB 13 2020-theG&BJournal-The verdict by the five-man panel of Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court was unanimous and the focal point of the judgement was on the deputy governor elect, Biobarakuma Deji- Eremieoyo. He presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Commission (INEC), the judges ruled.
The decision given Thursday effectively sacked the All Progressive Congress (APC) governor-elect David Lyon and his deputy because both shared a joint ticket.
‘’Deji-Eremieye’s disqualification invalidated their nomination by the All Progressive Congress (ACP),’’ the judges said. ‘’The Form CF 001 Deji-Eremieoyo submitted to INEC for the purpose of the November 16, 2019, governorship election in the state, contained false information of fundamental nature.’’
The ruling followed an appeal that was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their party candidates against the APC candidates in the gubernatorial election that held 2019.
Consequently, the Court ordered INEC to immediately withdraw the Certificate of Return that was earlier issued to both and issue a fresh one to the party with the second highest number of votes (PDP) and had the requisite constitutional spread.
The decision of the apex court reinstated the November 12, 2019 judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja that disqualified Deji-Eremieoyo from participating in the governorship poll.
