WED APRIL 24 2024-theGBJournal| The Minister of Aviation, Festus Kayamo Wednesday ordered the immediate suspension of Dana Airline’s fleet until a comprehensive audit can be conducted on the Airline.
The Airlines’ suspension follows ”serious” concerns regarding both safety and financial viability of their operations after recent saftey incidents.
On 23rd April, Dana Airline was in a runway incident involving its MD-82 arcraft with registration marks 5N-BK1 at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport.
Preliminary report on the incident was launched by the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the outcome is been awaited by Nigeri Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Meanwhile, the NCAA said it has initiated an in-house compliance assessment of the occurrence taking into account previous occurrences involving Dana Air aircraft.
”This is in a bid to establish any trend which must be nipped in the bud in the interest of the safety and well-being of our citizens and travellers,” NCAA said.
The Aviation Ministry expect the planned audit ”to encompass all aspects of safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with our aviation regulations.”
According to the Aviation Ministry, ”the recent incidents have underscored the urgency of this matter, and it is imperative that swift and decisive action be taken to safegaurd the interests of all stakeholders involved.”
