SAT, JAN 11 2020-theG&BJournal At half time it was Crystal 0-1 Arsenal. Arsenal came into the game unbeaten in five away matches and with an unchanged side, the same that beat Manchester United on 1st January, looking to record back to back victory on the ground that Mikel Arteta said is ‘’very difficult to come.’’ This fixture has produced 28 goals in the past seven meetings.
The Gunners dominated exchanges inside the first 10 minutes with 80 % ball possession. Crystal Palace struggled to get the ball and Arsenal punished them with their first attempt at goal when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slid home a perfect pass from Alexandre Lacazette in the 12 minute 1-nil Arsenal.
Arsenal went to sleep in the second half. And they too were punished by the injury riddled Crystal Palace side. The South London side levelled the game in the 53rd minutes of play when the Gunners failed to deal with a free-kick and were dealt a blow as the ever enterprising Cheikhou Kouyate found Jordan Ayew whose shot deflects off David Luiz and ballooned over the Arsenal keeper into the net. Crystal Place 1-1 Arsenal. The Crystal Palace fans rose again behind their team.
Arsenal, now struggling to keep up with Place’s pressure were reduced to 10-men after the goal score Aubameyang was sent off in the 67th minute. Aubameyang’s challenge on Meyer earned him a straight red card. VAR was called in on the challenge and the verdict was perfect.
Arsenal has now failed to win any of their two premier League London derbies this season.
