COVID-19 Updates: Nigeria confirms first case in Lagos

    FRI, FEB 28 2020-theG&BJournal- Nigeria has become the first West African country to confirm a COVID-19 case. The patient is an Italian who entered Nigeria on the 25th of February from Milan, Italy for a brief business visit.
    The Lagos State government confirmed the case Thursday. The State government said the infection was confirmed by virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
    The Lagos state government said in a statement that the patient fell ill on the 26th of February and was transferred to Lagos State Biosecurity Facilities for isolation and testing.
    The case, which was confirmed on the 27th of February 2020, is the first case to be reported in Nigeria since the outbreak of the virus in China.
