SUN, MARCH 01 2020-theG&BJournal- The Lagos State government has debunked claims that the confirmed coronavirus patient isolated at the Lagos Mainland hospital tried to escape, saying that at no time did the patient express any desire to leave the facility.
The State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi who debunked the news told newsmen that patient was initially kept in a single isolation room for his privacy when he was brought in because part of the facilities at the Mainland Hospital was being renovated. He said the patient has subsequently been moved to the newly renovated wards.
‘’As of this morning, his condition has improved, he hasn’t developed new symptoms but he still got mild fever and we will be running tests to what the situation is whit the virus in his body and as soon as we get a negative screen we will keep for another two or three days and repeat the test to make sure that there are no more virus particles in his saliva and that means that he will not be contagious. Then, we can give the OK for him to be released back to the community.’’
Health officials in the country have so far identified 100 people who may have been exposed to the patient.
The State government has since raised its level of response to the COVID-19 following the emergence of the case in the early hours of Friday. The State Health Commissioner said more capabilities were being put in place to deal with any increase number of cases.
