SUN, MARCH 08 2020-theG&BJournal- ‘’Today for the first time 100 countries are reporting covid19 cases. This comes after the world reached 100,000 cases yesterday,’’ WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebre said today on his twitter handle.
He said while very serious, ‘’this should not discourage us. There are many things everyone, everywhere can and should do now.’’
As of today (8/3/2020), 60, 637 people have recovered while 3,648 have died from the 107,563 confirmed cases worldwide.
Following a decree signed by Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte, Italy, the most ravaged country in Europe, has shut theatres, museums, schools and cinemas across the country as the COVID-19 continues to spread.
In the UK, 21, 460 tests have been concluded. 21, 254 were confirmed negative, and 206 positive. Two patients have died from the disease.
In Nigeria, the Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has continued to echo prevention measures. As of March 6, there only 21 suspected cases of COVID-19 across Lagos, Ogun, Kano and FCT. ‘’Only 1 case has tested positive. 61 individuals are currently under supervised isolation by states.
Cases in Egypt has risen, with 33 new cases confirmed on Sunday a cruise ship travelling between Aswan and Luxor in the South of the country.
Cases in Iran have reached 6,566 after 743 cases were confirmed Sunday. 49 new deaths have also been reported, bringing the total deaths now 194. In the U.S. 19 patients have died. 445 cases have been confirmed.
Sadly in China, two people were killed when a hotel designated for quarantine collapsed. Mainland China total confirmed cases is an astonishing 80,695 with 3,097 deaths. South Korea, the second most afflicted country has now confirmed 7,041 cases with 46 confirmed dead. France and Japan now have 949 and 455 confirmed cases, and 16 and 6 deaths respectively.
