MON, MARCH 23 2020-theG&BJournal- In Africa, the confirmed cases total 1187 as at Sunday, 23 March 2020 in 43 countries. Two new coronavirus cases were identified Sunday in Rwanda, bringing the total to nineteen (19). Both cases are imported from Dubai, UAE.
All patients remain under treatment in stable condition, isolated from other patients. The tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management. Rwandan government say heightened vigilance is required. Any Rwandans or legal residents returning to the country will now be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated locations.
In Zambia one new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed by the laboratory, bringing the total of confirmed cases to three.
The latest case is a Lusaka-based Zambian national, who returned from Pakistan on 18th March, 2020. He is currently stable and all contacts being traced.
The first two confirmed COVID-19 cases also remain stable.”- Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya said.
In Kenya, in the last 72 hours, health officials say they have received confirmation of Eight (8) new cases who have tested positive for Coronavirus in the country.
This now brings the number of those who have tested positive to fifteen (15). Out of the latest eight (8) cases, five (5) are Kenyans and three (3) are foreign nationals-two French and one Mexican. All the eight are imported cases from Europe and America.
The ages are between 20 years for the youngest and 67years for the oldest. All the eight came through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport between March 4th and March 17th, 2020. They have all been isolated at various facilities and are being monitored by our teams.
‘’We are tracing 363 persons who had come into contact with patients. So far we only have three people awaiting processing at Mbagathi hospital.’’ Kenyan officials say.
Meanwhile, more than 6 million medical supplies donated by the Jack Ma Foundation have arrived Ethiopia and will make their way across Africa to ‘’communities impacted by COVID-19.’’
Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba foundation last week announced the donation to each one of the 54 Africa nations 20,000 testing kits, 100,000 masks, and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields
In total, 1.1 million testing kits, 6 million masks, and 60,000 medical use protective suits and face shields will be delivered to Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia agreed to take lead in managing the logistics and distribution of these supplies to the other Africa countries.’’
