COVID-19 Nigeria: Virus is ‘’vanishing’’ as NCDC records just 288 new cases of infection

The NCDC is supporting the Cross River State health team in investigation of suspected COVID-19 outbreaks and decontamination of facilities in affected areas in the State.

TUE, AUG 04 2020-theG&BJournal-Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Monday recorded just 288 more coronavirus cases, the lowest number of coronavirus infection in nearly two months.
The significant drop off in number of infection means that the nationwide total of infected people has slowed too, now totalling 44,129.
Infection rate began showing signs of dropping off in mid July when the mean and median daily positivity rates reflected substantive week-on-week decrease for three weeks in a row.
Lagos State, the disease epicentre in Nigeria have equally seen consecutive drop in number of infection and new figures point to a peak as projected by the State Commissioner of Health Akin Abayomi, when he briefed on COVID-19 in the State on Thursday July 23, 2020.
The State reported 88 new cases Monday, the fifth consecutive day with figures lower than 100, and on one occasion as low 65 confirmed cases-(recorded on Saturday August 1, 2020). It also reported the recovery of 10, 946 COVID-19 patients Monday.
Overall, 15 States recorded new cases of infection. A total of 20, 663 cases have been discharged from various isolation centres but 896 people are recorded as dead from 36 states. The NCDC says it has tested 287,532 samples.
