…Appeals to Nigeria’s medical professionals to see the positive aspect of the gesture
MON, APRIL 06 2020-theG&BJournal-The offer by Chinese company CCECC to import about 256 equipment and items in different quantities into the country, is a corporate social responsibility initiated by CCECC, a company with a total volume of infrastructural contract in Nigeria worth over $10 billion.
Boss Mustapha made the clarification Monday during the daily briefing in Abuja by Presidential Task Force on Control of COVID-19.
Among the items the Chinese firm proposed to bring in are 1.3 million medical masks, 150, 000 pieces of personal protective equipment as well as 50 medical ventilators, which is in huge shortage globally.
According to Mustapha, the company has also proposed and on its own suggested to sponsor public health experts to help strengthen the country’s public health capacity and advice on processes and procedure.
‘’The professionals that have been invited by CCECC through their parent company in China to come as public health specialists and medical engineers will support Nigeria’s capacity in managing the pandemic on advisory basis were necessary,’’ Mustapha said.
‘’However, I wish to clarify that all the countries of the world are seeking for assistance and are receiving help in the fight against COVID-19.’’
According to the Task Force Chairman; In the content of the letter they (CCECC) wrote, they said because of their volume of business in Nigeria and their responsibility as a corporate citizen they want to offer help based on how they were able to manage the pandemic in China and flattened the curve. China is no longer experiencing any community transmission now only Imported cases.
‘’In no way shall they be involved case management and interface with patients. They will train our manpower, advice on procedures, install and test the equipment donated before handing them over for use.’’
He appealed to the medical professionals in the country to see the positive aspect of this gesture as an extension of development in the field of medicine. He said the Presidential Task Force recognises the competence and capabilities of Nigerian doctors and other medical personal.
‘’This is a state of war against the coronavirus and time should not be devoted to unhelpful controversies. CCECC are the ones building our railways-from Lagos to Ibadan, from Abuja to Kaduna and Kano, the Itakpe-Ajaokuta rail. They have chattered a Nigerian aircraft to bring in the items so that we can build our capacity,’’ Mustapha added.
