COVID-19 Nigeria update: Delta State Government orders all schools shut

    FRI, MARCH 20 2020-theG&BJournal- Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has directed that all primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state be closed effective Thursday, March 26, 2020 for 30 days.
    The State Governor gave the order Friday as response to the escalation of coronavirus cases in Nigeria.
    The Governor Thursday urged Deltans to observe all precautionary measures, affirming that his administration was doing its best to keep the virus in check should there be any incidence in the state.
    The new step is in addition to the 11 holding facilities across state, which have been set up in accordance with the Nigeria Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines and located strategically across the state.
    Total new cases in Nigeria rose to 12 Thursday prompting states across the federation to ramp up their preparedness and response measures.
    President Muhammadu has called for calm amidst the gradual spread of the coronavirus in the country, as well as rolling out far reaching economic measures to mitigate against the outbreak.
    The Governor also advised that parents should endeavor to provide hand sanitizers for their children.
    ”Hand wash stations must be provided easily identifiable points in the markets,” he said, while urging the leaders of the various market associations to take note of the development.
    The governor also added that offices must ensure that they are fitted with the right type of sanitizers.
    ”Supermarkets, malls, churches and other places of worship should provide hand sanitizers for customers and worshippers,” He added.
