…NCDC report 604 new cases nationwide

FRI, JULY 24 2020-theG&BJournal– Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced Thursday 203 more Coronavirus cases in Lagos to bring its total to a staggering 14,009.
192 deaths have been recorded while 11,742 are cases are been managed in isolation centres, reflecting the rapid rise of infection across the State.
The States Commissioner of Health, Prof Akin Abayomi yesterday at a news briefing on COVID-19 said that the State has conducted over 56,000 coronavirus tests and they still see an upward trend in new cases.
‘’So we have not peaked yet,’’ he said. ‘’I have previously postulated that Lagos State is likely to peak in the month of August-based on our modelling and observation, and I hope that Lagos State will peak soon, flatten out and starts trending down.’’
A total of 38,948 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded nationwide with 21 States and the FCT reporting a total of 604 new cases Thursday. Oyo added 87 more cases to take its total 2,306 behind the second most infected State, FCT which now have total of 3,376 confirmed cases. Edo States recorded 41 new cases to bring its total to 2,105 while Rivers, Delta, Kano, Kaduna and Ogun States have total confirmed cases of 1,587, 1,453, 1,452, 1,289 and 1,227 respectively.
Confirmed cases in Cross River have now reached 34, less than 2 weeks after it joined the national list.
Coronavirus confirmed cases globally as of Thursday was a record 15,250,804 with 623,897 deaths reported.
In Africa, 16,434 have died from the virus and a total of 770,300 cases have so far been confirmed, according to Africa CDC Thursday data.
