COVID-19 Nigeria: House Speaker Gbajabiamila sets up COVID-19 strategic response team

TUE, APRIL 28 2020-theG&BJournal- The Speaker of the Federal House of Representative Femi Gbajabiamila today disclosed that he has set up a COVID-19 Strategic Response Team (CRST) with a broad mandate to develop interventions and reforms and also to update the Legislative Agenda to reflect Nigeria’s post-COVID realities and priorities.
He made the disclosure during the opening of the House plenary in Abuja where the House also debated the Nigeria’s COVID-19 response initiatives.
The debate was led by Representative Alhasan Doguwa (APC, Doguwa/Tundun Wada Federal Constituency, Kano) who noted that the index COVID-19 case was recorded in February 27, 2020 and that the Federal Government has released N5 billion naira to the NCDC to scale up capacity in fighting the virus.
He House leader said that the House-being aware of Kano’s population, is worried by the rising spate of unexplained coronavirus deaths where 77 COVID-19 cases and I dead case has been recorded in less than two weeks.
He noted that Kano being a cosmopolitan city has only one testing center which has been shut down for about a week, reportedly due to lack of testing materials and reagents.
