WED, MAY 13 2020-theG&BJournal- Figures released late Tuesday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) showed fewer number of new coronavirus victims, fewer states reporting new cases and fewer people infected in the reporting states with confirmed new cases.
The NCDC figure showed 146 (down from 242 recorded on Monday) more patients tested positive for COVID-19, the lowest  jump since May 5 2020, bringing the country’s total to 4787.
8 more people have died to take the fatalities to 158 but more people have equally recovered-57 more patients have recovered and the combined total sent home so far is 959.
Only 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reported new cases. Lagos, the epicentre of the disease in the country, with record 1990 confirmed cases, recorded less than half the usual highs-just 57 new cases. Kano, despite the significant amount of testing going on in the state, only 27 people came out positive with coronavirus. Both Lagos and Kano have discharged combined 576 patients.
Miraculously, Katsina and Borno states with 179 and 158 cases the previous day reported zero and 2 cases respectively on Tuesday.
The NCDC figure showed that a total of 1,340 more samples of suspect cases were farmed on Tuesday to take the total so far to 28,418.
The top-5 afflicted states (Lagos, Kano, Federal Capital Territory, Katsina and Borno) are still contending with dwindling bed spaces given the current number of patients on admission.
The data still shows that about 69% of men are more likely to contact the disease compared to 39% of woman, according to thy NCDC, and the most affected age group are those between 31 and 40.
