THUR, JULY 30 2020-theG&BJournal– Plateau State is the latest State in the country to record over 1,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as states struggle to halt surge.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 40 new cases in the State Wednesday to bring its total to 1,056 with 19 coronavirus related deaths. 568 patients are still on admission while 469 in total have been discharged.
404 new cases were reported from 20 states in all by the NCDC to take the Nigeria’s total of coronavirus to 42,208. The virus has so far killed 873 but 19,004 patients nationwide has been discharged while 22,331 are still in various isolation centres across the country. The NCDC says it has conducted 272,748 sample tests.
Lagos continues to record the highest daily infection, reporting another 106 new cases to bring its total now to an astonishing 14,954. The State’s coronavirus related death totals 192.
Confirmed infections in the FCT also spiked by 54 to bring its total to 3,614 with 42 coronavirus related deaths.
The other States reporting new cases are Rivers-48, Plateau-40, Edo-29, Enugu-21, Oyo-20, Kano-18, Ondo-15, Ogun-10, Ebonyi-9, Ekiti-8, Kaduna-6, Cross River-5, Kwara-4, Anambra-3, Delta-3, Imo-2, Nasarawa-2 and Borno-1.
Confirmed coronavirus cases in Oyo and Edo States have exceeded 2, 000 (2,688 and 2,241 respectively) while Rivers, Kano, Delta, Kaduna, Ogun and Ondo have recorded confirmed cases in excess of 1,000.
Globally, the latest number of confirmed cases as of Wednesday July 29, 2020 is 16,760,915. The virus has killed 660,978 in total.
In Africa, 55 countries reported a total of 874,609 according the Africa CDC. 18,507 people are also reported dead while 526,306 have recovered.
