FRI, MAY 08 2020-theG&BJournal-The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced additional 381 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, as the country’s total rose to 3526. Deaths and discharges increased to 107 and 601 respectively.
This is the first time the country has clocked over 200 one-day new cases. The new figure is a portrait of devastation ahead, as Nigerians continue their debate about the existence of coronavirus.
The Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha Thursday described the growing disregard to the prevention measures put in place by the federal and state governments as worrisome, and pointed specifically to the growing number infection caused by seeding through inter-state travels.
‘’It is important to remember that this is a war in which every Nigerian is a combatant,’’ Mustapha warned.
The NCDC Director General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu said Thursday that about 32,000 samples have been collected for testing in all. But true number of people infected by the virus is still a mystery because of the huge gap between the tested and the population.
Meanwhile, the NCDC took delivery yesterday of additional lab equipment and testing reagents from the Africa CDC as part of partnership to accelerate COVID-19 testing. The initiative aims to ensure production of test kits and acceleration of testing in the African region.
