TUE, MAY 26 2020-theG&BJournal- The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) daily update on coronavirus pandemic in the country continues to reveal the dangerous pattern of the spread of disease in the country.
The latest data shows that 56% of the confirmed cases in the country are transmitted by persons with no epidemiological linkage, which is now more than 4395 of the country’s total confirmed cases. Only about 3% have travel history unlike when the disease spread became prominent and contact cases have dropped to just 23%.
Older people, as the NCDC noted frequently, with pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes and cancer, remain the most vulnerable-at higher risk of complications from COVID-19. Test results are taking longer time to determine than expected and more people are now been advised to remain in self-isolation due to the length of period it takes to collect samples and result notification. Only 45,683 samples have so far been tested nationwide.
Meanwhile, 229 new confirmed cases and 7 deaths were recorded in Nigeria on the on the 25th of May 2020, with Cross River State still coronavirus infection free. The news cases brings the country total now to a disturbing 8068.
The 229 new cases were reported from 15 states. Lagos retains its prime position as the state with most number of new cases. Katsina reported more new cases than Kano. Both registered 27 and 23 new cases respectively.
