MON, MAY 25 2020-theG&BJournal- A total of 5,350 Nigerians are on admission in hospitals across the country with coronavirus infection, reflecting the extent of damage the disease is wreaking on human health in the country.
Majority of the states affected are already quietly institutionalizing home treatment, quarantine and isolation of new cases as they run out of bed spaces.
In Lagos, the epicentre of the disease in Nigeria, 2,805 are hospitalized. Although it has seen most cases of discharged patient with 658 people already sent home after treatment. Kano, FCT, Katsina, Jigawa, Oyo, Ogun, Borno, Rivers, Kaduna and Edo States have a combined total of 2,130 patients on admission for coronavirus infection.
According the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) update for Sunday May 24, 2020, total number of cases in Lagos has dropped to 3,505 from 3, 357 recorded the previous day. In Kano it has risen, marginally though, to a total of 896 from 883 the previous day. FCT recorded 36 new cases to take its new total to 505 from 469. These are the states with the highest cases in the country.
In all, 313 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria on Sunday. Till date, 7839 cases have been confirmed, 2263 cases have been discharged and 226 deaths have been reported too.
The 313 new cases are reported from 17 states- Lagos (148), FCT (36), Rivers (27), Edo (19), Kano (13), Ogun (12), Ebonyi (11), Nasarawa (8), Delta (8), Oyo (7), Plateau (6), Kaduna (5), Kwara (4), Akwa Ibom (3), Bayelsa (3), Niger (2), Anambra (1)
