COVID-19 Nigeria: 454 new cases in 19 States confirmed to end week littered with frightening figures

SAT, JULY 04 2020-theG&BJournal- The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 454 new cases of coronavirus, the lowest number in a week littered with frightening number of infections across the country.
The figures announced by the NCDC late Friday brought nationwide total to 27,564 infections, including total of 628 deaths.
Of the 19 States reporting new cases, 12 have their numbers in low double digits, continuing the weekend trend of low sample collection. Lagos (87) reported the highest number to keep it firmly at the top as the Nigeria’s epidemic epicentre. Edo State reported 63 new cases while FCT-60, Ondo -41, Benue -32, Abia -31 and Ogun-29 recorded more than 20 new cases.
Oyo -19, Kaduna -17, Delta -16, Enugu-15, Borno-14 saw reduced weekend haul of new cases.
Oyo with a total 1,451 confirmed coronavirus infection is now the third highest infected state after Lagos-10,910 and FCT-2,080. Oyo is closely followed by Edo -1,266, Kano-1,262, Delta-1,165 and Rivers -1,114. Ogun State with total count of confirmed coronavirus cases at 927 is poised to join the 1000 club.
NCDC says a total of 144,833 samples has been tested with 11,069 recoveries recorded.
In other coronavirus development, 54 African Union member States reported cumulative total of 433,268 COVID-19 cases as of July 3 2020 with 10,654 deaths and 208,157 recoveries, according to Africa CDC data.
