THUR, AUG 06 2020-theG&BJournal-Nigeria’s coronavirus outbreak is still showing signs of slowing as Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded 11, 502 patients as discharged within the past 48 hours.
Health experts explained the discharge rate as a cumulative number of patients managed at home, mostly in Lagos-a State which has discharged a total of 13,106 patients as of 5th of August 2020.
The NCDC recently provided guidance to States to report cases that have recovered but were managed at home. Only Lagos has complied but the NCDC Director General, Chikwe Ihekweazu expects that more States will follow by next week.
Another 457 new cases of coronavirus were reported Wednesday by the NCDC causing the nationwide total to shoot up to 44, 890. The number of active cases has also slowed- less than 300 in the past three days, bolstering hope and suggestions by health officials that the outbreak is reaching its peak. Daily rate of fatalities has equally remained low at 2.0% CFR with 17 new deaths reported nationwide on Wednesday-up from 910 on Tuesday to 927 on Wednesday August 5th 2020.
In all 21 States including the FCT reported new cases of the virus with Lagos topping the list with a high of 137. The FCT, Plateau, Rivers and Enugu States reported 76, 40, 35 and 34 new cases respectively.
The other States reporting new cases are Oyo-25, Abia-23, Delta-12, Ebonyi-11, Edo-11, Cross River-10, Kwara-10, Kaduna-9, Anambra-7, Ogun-5, Bauchi-3, Imo-3, Nasarawa -2, Osun-2, Ekiti-1 and Kano1.
